DIY: Transform your t-shirt into a bag

Do you like to be a little creative? And, more important, do you want to have a new, original bag without spending a lot of money? Then transform your t-shirt into a personal bag! Original, how you like it, and cheap! I stumbled upon this article at www.stylehive.com but inserted my own preferences, descriptions and ideas!

You will need:
- A t-shirt you like (either new or old)
- A pair of scissors
- Sewing machine (or sew by hand with a needle)
- Yarn in the same colour as your t-shirt, or whatever you prefer.

Step one:
Choose a t-shirt you like (preferably with a nice print:) )
Step two:
Cut the sleeves from your t-shirt. After that, cut down from the shoulder which makes your t-shirt a piece of elongated cloth. (See picture three)
Step three:
Turn the t-shirt inside out and  stitch the sides of the t-shirt together. Make sure you stitch approximately 0,5 cm from the side, so that you have 0,5 cm left on the outside. To improve the sturdiness of your bag you can stitch over the line again. You leave the top of the t-shirt open (this will be the opening of your bag).
To make the top look more neat you can make a little seam, of approximately 0,5 cm as well.
Your shirt should look like picture four at this moment.
Step four:
Turn your t-shirt back to normal and start looking for nice material for the handles of your bag. I prefer to make the handles from left-over material from old jeans since this is strong. However, it is all up to you!

Step five:
Cut the handles for your bag. They should be 5 cm wide and 60 cm long (you can adapt this if you prefer longer or thicker handles).

Step six:
Fold the handles and stitch them neatly together. After this you can stitch them to your bag. It is your own choice to decide on which side (the inside or the outside) you attach the handles. To improve the strength of your bag you can stitch a square with a cross through it (like you see at picture five).

Step seven:
Make a flat base for your bag. Turn the bag inside-out and fold two triangles at the end. Stitch a line down at every triangle, approximately 10 cm from the outside of the triangle like you see at picture six.
And you are done with your home-made bag! You can see that I let some choices up to you instead of telling you how to do it step by step. I did this on purpose, since I want you to be creative and do whatever you like!

Enjoy!
